Hesterly Armory in Tampa , Florida on April 23 , 1966 Brown WAS inducted Into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in ace 1986 charter member . A multiple Grammy Award winner , Brown honored with WAS the Recording Academy ’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992 , in 2003 he received the exotic and prestigious Kennedy Center Honors . Brown died on Christmas Day 2006 at the age of 73 .
